The City of Whyalla Art Prize is a biennial prize open to all Australian residents for 2 dimensional artwork in any medium other than photography.Next scheduled for 2017.

Entries must be wall-based works in any medium other than photography. Following the success of our digital initiative in 2015, the Whyalla Art Prize is again encouraging moving image artists to enter works in this year’s prize

The City of Whyalla Art Prize provides the opportunity for the community to:

  • Experience contemporary visual arts
  • Exhibit work
  • Meet with artistic peers

As the Prize is acquisitive, it has meant that over the years the Whyalla community has built up an impressive and notable collection of work.

Prizes

  • City of Whyalla Art Prize - $25,000 Acquisitive Supported by The Corporation of the City of Whyalla
  • Peoples Choice Award - $500

The Whyalla Art Prize was established in 1972 by the Whyalla Arts Council. Originally the prize was designed to stimulate and celebrate local artistic endeavour, but the prize soon established itself as one of the major regional arts awards in South Australia and attracted entries from artists throughout the state.

When the Whyalla Arts Council folded in 1992 Country Arts SA took on the role of administering and managing the prize. Since then a number of changes to the prize format have been made, including the development of new prize categories. These have extended the opportunities for artists to enter and have provided a national focus for the City of Whyalla Art Prize.

Venue: Middleback Theatre, 141a Nicolson Ave Whyalla SA 5600
