TasART is the prestigious community art exhibition held at the Burnie Regional Gallery each September.  TasART began as the 7NT Tasmanian Art Exhibition some 34 years ago and was rebadged in the early 1990s as TasART. TasART draws entries from new, emerging and established artists from across not only the north of Tasmania, but also the remainder of Tasmania and mainland Australia.  TasART is one of the very few art exhibitions, especially of equivalent prestige in Australia, which provides an opportunity for unknown artists to present their works alongside established artists and to have them selected for display based purely on their artistic merit.  As an unknown or emerging artist, to win an art prize  or to be highly commended at TasART is a true measure of an artist’s talent as measured against one’s contemporaries.   Most years, over 200 works are exhibited at TasART.
