The Stephen Procter Fellowship was established in 2001 in memory of Stephen Procter, Head of the Glass Workshop at The Australian National University 1993–2000. The aim of the Fellowship is to provide artists working in glass with professional development opportunities, notably to work or study abroad.

In 2014 the Stephen Procter Fellowship will be awarded to an international artist. It will fund a 6-8 week residency in the Glass Workshop at the ANU, School of Art by providing $5,000 towards travel and materials. The residency offers shared studio space and access to well equipped glass workshop facilities; the opportunity to work with students and staff at the Glass Workshop of the School of Art, as well as accommodation.

This is a great opportunity to experience focussed studio time. The Fellowship also supports projects that seek to develop wider engagement with the School of Art and Australian culture. We also encourage international recipients to travel: we can assist with the logistics of domestic travel plans and make connections to other glass facilities and artists across Australia.

The program has been been highly successful since its inception and to date 11 artsist have received this award. They are: Blanche Tilden, Harumi Yukutake, Alexandra Chambers, Mark Zirpel, Brenden Scott French, Rebecca Chernow, Deirdre Feeney, Matt Szosz, Mel George, Amber Cowan and Patricia Roan.
