In celebration of Glen Street Theatre’s 30th year of operation and the philosophy of the cultural hub, a new initiative is launched - Sculpture in the Glen.
Entries are open to local, national and international sculptors with $16,000 worth of cash prizes and two local artist residencies up for grabs. Sculpture in the Glen seeks artists whose practice achieves high levels of artistic integrity, quality and innovation, and whose work draws inspiration both from theatre and the bush.
The exhibition of submitted works will comprise of a sculpture trail through the bush garden surrounding Glen Street Theatre as well as a small indoor sculpture exhibition.
Prizes
The major prize – the Warringah Mayor’s prize – will be an acquisition and carry $10,000 as prize money. In addition there will be a $3000 acquisition prize – the FYTC Philpott Prize – awarded for a site-specific, theatre-related work.
Other prizes include a $1000 Theatre Director’s Award for most outstanding indoor small sculpture, two $1000 Peoples’ Choice Awards (one each for outdoor sculpture and indoor small sculpture), a six-month residency in the sculpture studio at the Warringah Creative Space in Curl Curl for an outstanding Northern Beaches artist, and a three-month residency at Eramboo Artist Environment.
Sculpture in the Glen’s Opening Ceremony and Prize Presentation will be held at Glen Street Theatre on Saturday September 5. Up to 60 works will be exhibited in the bushland gardens and up to 50 small sculptures will be exhibited in the theatre building. All work should be available for sale. Submissions close Monday May 4.
