The Prize celebrates the creative talent and social contribution of visual artists from a refugee background. Artists living in Australia since 1995, with beginning or established practices in painting, drawing, photography or mixed media, are encouraged to create work that reflects and expresses the theme of Heartlands; the aspirations, hopes and dreams that refugees bring with them to Australia.

Artists entering the competition must be Australian permanent residents, citizens, or hold appropriate permanent residency visas. Competition organisers may request proof of presence in Australia up to and including the fifteen (15) years provided for.

In 2013, the entrants' painting, drawing, photography and mixed media works will reflect and express the theme I wish to see...

  • $12000 First Prize (including a solo exhibition and short-term artist in residence)
  • $5000 Second Prize (Acquisitive to major partner AMES)
  • $2000 Third Prize (Acquisitive to major partner AMES)
  • $1,000 Newly arrived refugee prize
