This is a biennial prize held on even years.

A non-acquisitive competition and exhibition for women over 18 who are NSW residents. Women artists from across NSW are invited to submit works, in any medium, that respond to the historic house of Meroogal, its former occupants, and its meaning within broader historical and contemporary contexts. The prize awards a diverse and original use of media, the the practice of traditional women's arts and crafts in a contemporary context.

The selection panel will be looking for newly created artworks that demonstrate a direct creative response to Meroogal as a place, and to its history and stories – both specific (relating to the house and its former residents) and broader (exploring themes evoked by the house and residents) – combined with artistic merit.

The prize is open to artworks in any style or medium, with the exception of materials that are dangerous, sharp, wet or perishable.

  • Residency Prize: $8,000, a Bundanon artist-in-residence scholarship* and a Museums of History NSW membership
  • Exhibition Prize: $8,000, a solo exhibition at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, Nowra and a Museums of History NSW membership
  • Highly Commended Award: $1,500 and a Museums of History NSW membership
