Entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of entry. All entrants must be Australian residents. An ‘Australian resident’ is someone who holds a current permanent residency visa, or is an Australian citizen. Those who hold a student visa, or any other visa that is not a permanent residency visa, are not eligible to enter.
The artist’s response need not be confined to a physical likeness in the traditional sense of a portrait. It may take on many forms as simple or complex as needed to create a compelling expression of identity. A soundscape, for example, could be created to convey notions of selfhood and identity. The submission must be created using screen-based digital technologies as a mode of expression.
Prize
With the generous support of Macquarie Group Foundation and the Tallis Foundation, the National Portrait Gallery is offering a $10,000 bursary to the artist judged to have made the most outstanding screen-based digital portrait. In addition to the generous bursary the artist will receive a residency at a leading Australian contemporary art space, media profile and exhibition opportunity at the National Portrait Gallery.
The artist awarded the I.D. Digital Portraiture Award for 2012 will be given the opportunity to undertake a six-week artistic residency at the Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts.
