A Highlight of the event is the innovative sketchbook drawing trail competition where artists and enthusiasts, (including children's category), can register for the self-guided landscape tour of key Mountain destinations. Provided with a sketchbook, participants can follow a route from the Norman Lindsay Gallery through to inspirational environments including locations at Wentworth Falls, Katoomba to Lithgow. Each journey will culminate in drawings being exhibited and judged for a $5,000 art prize at Wild Valley Art Park.

All sketchbooks must have visited at least one of the Sketchbook Locations to be eligible. More than one festival location is encouraged. Areas surrounding festival locations (the Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions) can also be included in sketchbooks. Entries must be completed and handed into Wild Valley Art Park on or before 11am Sunday 29th September. Entries to the exhibition can be for sale or marked Not For Sale. Works sold will incur a 30% commission taken from sale price. Sketches can be Portrait or Landscape oriented.
