The City of Melville Art Award has been running since 1978 and has been located at the Civic Centre since 2003. The Art Award is open to professional and amateur artists alike with prizes awarded in nine different media categories. The Youth Category is open to people who turn 15 in 2008 or are under 21 years of age. This is a non-acquisitive award for artists residing in Western Australia. There are two award streams, one for 2D works and another for sculpture.
