The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award was established in 1999, the International Year of the Older Person. Through this art award, the Northern Territory Government celebrates the significant and valuable contributions that senior Territorians make to our community. The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award highlights the achievements of older Territorians and fosters excellence and creativity in the art of portraiture by artists who are residents of the Northern Territory.

Acquisition Award - $7000 is provided in exchange for the winning original portrait, which is thus acquired by the Northern Territory Government for the Araluen Art Collection.
