Dobell Prize for Drawing

The Dobell Drawing Prize is a new biennial prize and exhibition presented by the National Art School in association with the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation. The Prize is an open call to all artists and aims to explore the enduring importance of drawing and the breadth and dynamism of contemporary approaches to drawing.

The 2020 Dobell Drawing Prize is only open to Australian citizens or permanent residents of 12 months or more who are over the age of 18. Each competitor may enter up to two works only. An entry fee of $50.00 including GST is payable for each artwork entered.

The size of the artwork must not exceed 6 square metres (e.g. 3m x 2m, 1.5m x 4m etc.). Please note that the wall height in Gallery 1 at the National Art School Gallery is 4.15 metres, floor to ceiling and the wall height in Gallery 2 at the National Art School Gallery is 4.8 metres, floor to ceiling. Works submitted must have been completed within 12 months of the closing date for entries, which is 31 October 2018.

Medium: there are no limitations to media, however artists are asked to describe the nature of their drawing practice in an artist’s statement as part of the entry requirements.
